Art Alive Expo - 2020

Today we had a art expo! Every class made a piece of art based around the theme of 'Art Alive' They were so awesome ! :)

The two top photos are of Room 2 and Room 4's work.

Room 2 have done figures based on their artist named Alberto Giacometti while Room 4 did starry night illustrated by Van Gogh.

 I loved everyones art but i've got to say Room 22 really caught my eye with the tye dye shirts they made ! Great work Room 22 :) My class (Room 11) made posters based around different themes with photos in black & white. We took photos of different scenery and did different poses to tell stories.

                                                                                     
                          Every piece of art was unique, and thats what I liked most about the expo today :) We all had different techniques but they all turned out super great!                                               

                                 

Overall, I loved the art expo this year :) Such creative minds we all have!

Kiwi Kids News Read Off! - Reading

Task Description:

For todays task we are focusing on the world news :P

Today I have read two articles on a website called 'Kiwi Kids News'.

I have read about the mental health week and I also read about the success of Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

Nelson Mandela - Writing

 Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was a civil rights activist born 1918 in a small village of the thembu kingdom. He was famous for demolishing apartheid in south africa. 

In Mandela’s time, white south africans had taken over the villages he had stayed in, colonising the land and taking everything for them. He had also seen how unfair colored people were compared to the white population in his country. From the year 1948, successful laws in south africa were made for these people to be segregated, meaning seperated from each other. This was called apartheid.

Nelson knew he had to make a change for his country. With his plan to change the law and give rights to his people, Mandela reached out and spoke about ending apartheid. During this process he was taken to prison many times when then in 1964 he was sent to prison for life. Nelson delievered an amazing speech in the courtroom about how he dreamed of a society where his people would be freed and how he wished for everyone to have equal opportunities. While Mandela was in prison, many south african people continued to protest about ending apartheid. Nelson had spent 27 years in prison, and at the age of 71 he was given his freedom.

The effect of Nelson's protest had taken a massive impact on the rest of south africa after he had been taken out of prison. Alot of people had taken notice of apartheid and protested about it for weeks. In 1994 Mandela had been elected as the first black president for his country and ended apartheid once and for all.

Overall this without Mandela, South Africa wouldn’t be where it is today.

Railroad To Freedom - Writing

 The story ‘Railroad To Freedom’ talked about slavery in america, and also talked about the two people that helped the most and saved the african american slaves. The biggest problem in this story was about how the black people were being getting kidnapped and forced into slavery. Harriet (Formally known as Araminta) saved slaves by helping them escape, and there was also a man called Thomas Garret who made a safehouse for the slaves. All slavery ended once Abraham Lincoln came in for president and abolished anything to do with the topic in 1865.

 Why do we need school?

Why do we need school? Now that's something someone could probably easily answer. We need school to learn, to get a good job, and to learn how to socialize. This essay will tell you more about why we need school.

To learn.

Learning is the keypoint of school. It really helps you alot and could possibly change your life. Reading can teach you about the world and helps your imaginative mindset grow, math teaches you about numbers and teaches you how to add, subtract, and multiply, but besides all that there are many subjects that can help you in different ways. 

To get a good job.

Learning these subjects in school can really help you get a job in the future. Say you wanted to become an author for example, you’ll need to know the basics of reading and writing to support that decision. Not knowing how to write could be a disaster and not knowing how to read would be awful. How can you reach the goal of being an author if you don’t know how to read and write?

To socialize. 

School is a place where you will meet others, and make friends. In school, you learn how to socialize with other people by buddying up. Talking with others and learning how to communicate is a really great example of social interaction. 

In conclusion, school is really important for your life. Without school where would society be?

Tongan Myth - The Battle of the Shark and the Octopus

Today I have read a short tongan myth called 'The battle of the shark and the octopus'. In this story we meet a god known as 'Takuaka' who can turn into a anga (shark). He is a strong, valient, but jealous reef guardian, from fiji. He battles many others like him from everywhere. As he defeats yet another reef guardian, his friend tells him about a one he has not come across yet. Anga follows the reef and finds a reef guardian called feke (Octopus) and challenges him to a battle where he admits defeat and promises not to hurt anyone again.

Time Warp - Literacy T3W7

Task Description:

For todays task we have read a few paragraphs from the story 'Time Warp'.

We are focusing more on clauses as well as independent and dependent sentences.

We have also done a little bit of writing :) but mine is yet to be done.

Spaghetti Tower - Literacy 2020 T3W2

Task Description:

Today is our first day back in our literacy class! :) 

For today we have done a really exciting task !

Our task merely just focused on making a spaghetti tower and working together aswell as communicating, all in which wilson is really strong at doing.

We were given 10 minutes to think of an idea on how to make our tower stable and actually work >:)

In the end, our tower unfortunately didn't quite work and snapped :(

but it all just depended on how we worked together !

Title: South Korea

South Korea is a country found east of the continent Asia.

Language: Korean (Hanguk)

Population: 51.34 Million

Music

South Korea’s music is well known worldwide. This music genre is K-Pop. K-pop is a considered worldwide genre that became big in the 90’s to the 2000’s. Along with K-pop it was well known for it’s love of R&B, Hip-Hop, and also Reggae.

Key facts and information to include:

K-pop had suffered a lot of criticising.

In 2012 Gangnam Style (A song from PSY) had become it’s well known song.

Because K pop became popular worldwide people around the world started learning more about K culture

Food

Topic Sentence: Food is very important in South Korea. From it’s most popular foods like Kimchi (A spicy cabbage dish), Bibimbap (A rice dish with various seasoned vegetables), and also Japchae (A kind of Stir Fry with noodles). It had also been well known for it’s amazing street food markets.

Hotteok (A sweet Pancake) is their popular street food aside with Tteokbokki (Spicy Rice Cakes)

Seoul

Topic Sentence: Seoul is the capital of South Korea. This capital is very popular and has had a amazing number of 13.5 million foreign tourists that visit each year!

It’s well known torist place is Gyeonbokgung. A palace in Seoul.

The N Seoul Tower had been well known for giving a good glance at Seouls greatest views too.

Information Report: Literacy

New Zealand is a country found on the north, east side of australasia. It’s native languages are, english, sign language, and also maori. It’s population also consists of 4.7 million.

Wildlife

It’s wildlife is amazing! They have a native bird called the kiwi, that now said to be endangered due to many hunters, hunting them for feathers and also food. They also had a extinct bird called the moa, which can be found as a sculpture in the museum of Auckland and many others.

Key Facts and Information:

The spotted kiwi became extinct in 1930
Moa became extinct in 1300 AD

Food

New Zealand is proudfully engaged in food. The people have a lot of love for their seafood, like mussels, kina, and fish. They also have a well known dish called boil up, which consists of cabbage, meat, kumara, pumpkin, and all sorts. All these multi-cultural dishes are loved.

Key Facts and Information:

Alot of boil up dishes have a variety of different tastes and looks.
Seafood boil up is also a consistent dish of New Zealand people.
History

It’s history story is fascinating! The story of Te Tiriti O Waitangi (Formally known as The Treaty Of Waitangi) is the country’s popular story sharing the fact of a peace signing of the europeans and the maori. The treaty was said to be signed in 1840, both having a english version and a maori version.
Key Facts and Information:
 1845 - 1872 the Maori fought the world war.

Conclusion
Overall, New Zealand is a great place. From it’s wonderful people, Food, and heaps others.

Show Don't Tell - Literacy Work

Show Don’t Tell

It was terrifying. The loud gunshots blew my mind as many bodies suffered to the ground, crimson red blood gushing from their wounds.

I myself was impaired. There were alot of gun wounds around my hips. This wasn’t what I signed up for at all. A loud crash echoes through my suffering ears, another person shot.

Guilt raided through my body, I felt sorry for these people. I remember a soldier telling me last night about his kid who sent him about more than 100 letters saying he missed him. My eyes dissolve into tears, I weeped but the only thing heard were gunshots, they muted my disfigured cries for help.

That’s when my cries had been done for. My ears rang. My breath hitched. Was this the end? My body lay there lifeless. The only last thing I had saw was a poppy. It was very appealing. As I took my last breath, I mumbled “ Lest we forget. “


Task Description: In this writing task, we had been learning to show not tell. Show not tell is another way of saying having more detail. We had to put more detail into a message, letter, or something involved with the war. Here is my story.
